The COVID-19 pandemic has affected all aspects of life. This virus has claimed the lives of millions of people and many are still battling with it and its aftereffects. This pandemic has led to plenty of losses, whether that’s loss of life, loss of livelihood, or loss of one’s self. 2020 has to be one of the bleakest years in the modern world, and we are still grappling with the effects of this pandemic that’s still very much a threat.
The COVID-19 pandemic has also affected the faith of many as people haven’t been able to mingle with the community, attend service, listen to sermons, etc. The pandemic does call for a serious question, “what will our faith look like in the future?”
Here are some changes we are anticipating:
The church will continue to be more accessible with online services
No one will be left behind on their spiritual journey in the post-pandemic world. Most churches doing live streams will continue doing so, so that the elderly, frail, ill, and differently-abled can be part of the service.
Growth in virtual religious activities
While it’s important to have online church service to access a wider audience, we’re also expecting an increase in other virtual religious activities too. Religious experts are now becoming involved in podcasts, Instagram live sessions, Facebook groups, and even religious radio networks. Such work can really help build the community and keep the spirit alive, particularly in bleak times. We must use these technological advancements for the benefit of the community. In certain parts of the world, neighborhood services are being held on online meeting platforms, like Zoom, especially in May, the month of the Rosary.
Increased focus on bible study
Bible study is an essential part of the faith. It’s a way for members of the community to learn the truth of God’s Word for themselves. With church services being limited, online Bible study is becoming more popular. Online sermons and religious podcasts have also been beneficial resources to aid Bible study.
